Overview of Aqua Global’s capabilities in delivering SWIFT-related innovations and support for SWIFT message types
Swift Essentials
Aquila leverages the power of Swift Essentials APIs to transform financial messaging for institutions seeking speed, accuracy, and compliance. As an accredited partner in the Swift Enabler Program, Aqua Global enables organisations to boost their Swift capabilities by seamlessly integrating Pre-Validation, gpi, and SwiftRef services.
This integration enhances compliance, data enrichment, validation, and reporting delivering a smarter, more connected experience for both institutions and their customers.
With Aquila, organisations gain real-time access to Swift services, enabling Straight Through Processing (STP), live payment tracking, automated payment screening, and efficient exception management. The platform also supports reconciliations and matching workflows, helping reduce operational risk while improving transaction transparency
Swift Case Management
Despite advancements in cross-border payments, exception and investigation (E&I) handling remains costly, opaque, and manually intensive. With 1–3% of Swift messages failing STP and average investigation resolution times at 8 days, the industry faces over $1.6 billion annually in operational drag.
Swift’s new Case Management will become mandatory by 2027, introducing a centralised model for structured exception processing via ISO 20022 messaging, APIs, or GUI.
Aqua Global empowers banks to automate their integration with Case Management, enhancing transparency, reducing costs, and accelerating resolution times.
Replacing Swift IPLA/SIL
SWIFT is phasing out IPLA/SIL by mid-2026, driven by end-of-support for core components and the industry’s shift toward real-time, ISO 20022-based payments.
Our Aquila suite offers a direct modern and future proof replacement for IPLA/SIL.

Swift LAU
Swift LAU (Legal Authentication) adds an extra layer of security to messages processed via FTP by applying a digital signature that detects tampering. Aquila verifies the integrity of incoming and outgoing messages using HMAC-SHA-256 encryption, with symmetric keys shared between the back-office system and Swift Alliance Access. Messages with missing or invalid LAUs are automatically rejected, ensuring end-to-end message authenticity and protection.

Frequently Asked Questions related to Swift Innovation
How does integrating Swift Essentials improve payment processing?
Integration with Swift Essentials improves payment transparency, real-time tracking, messaging compliance and reduces manual exception handling through automation and enriched data validation.
What is Swift Essentials?
Swift Essentials is a suite of APIs that enhances cross-border payments through pre-validation, data enrichment, tracking, and improved compliance automation.
How does Swift Essentials improve payment reliability?
Swift Essentials improves reliability by validating payment data before submission, reducing rejections, enabling real-time tracking, and enhancing data accuracy for downstream processing.
Do banks need system upgrades to use SWIFT Essentials?
Banks require integration capability with Swift APIs, but this can often be achieved via a messaging hub or orchestration layer without replacing core systems.
What is SWIFT Case Management?
Swift Case Management is a centralised system for managing payment investigations, enabling banks to track, resolve, and respond to payment queries more efficiently across counterparties.
Why is Swift Case Management important?
It reduces investigation time, improves transparency in dispute handling, enhances compliance reporting, and minimises operational delays in resolving payment issues.
What is IPLA/SIL and why is it being replaced?
IPLA/SIL refers to legacy SWIFT bilateral messaging arrangements that are being phased out in favour of standardised, API-driven and ISO 20022-compliant solutions.
What are the risks of not replacing IPLA/SIL?
Failure to replace IPLA/SIL can result in connectivity disruption, non-compliance with SWIFT roadmap requirements, and operational inefficiencies in cross-border payments.
How can banks transition away from IPLA/SIL safely?
Banks can transition by implementing modern messaging hubs that support ISO 20022, SWIFT APIs, and standardised routing frameworks while maintaining interoperability during migration.
What is Swift gpi?
Swift gpi (Global Payments Innovation) enhances cross-border payments by providing end-to-end tracking, faster settlement, improved transparency, and enriched remittance information.
How does Swift gpi reduce payment delays?
Swift gpi reduces delays through real-time tracking, status visibility, standardised confirmation processes, and improved pre-validation of payment data.
Does Swift gpi improve compliance?
Yes. Swift gpi enhances compliance by increasing payment traceability, improving data transparency, and reducing ambiguity in cross-border transactions.
